On Monday, August 10, 2015, from 11:15 AM–12:15 PM, Matt Brennan, director of Supply & Logistics at Penn State Hershey Medical Center and co-recipient (with Jump Technologies) of a 2015 “100 Great Supply Chain Projects” award from Supply & Demand Chain Executive, will present a session titled Lean Six Sigma Process for Inventory Management Drives Nursing Satisfaction and Supply Cost Reduction.” This session will provide director-level supply chain professionals an overview of a joint project between the supply chain and ED nursing teams, as they came together in a Kaizen process to reinvent the way supplies were being managed in the ED. As a result of their efforts, a new business process and system was implemented, which increased nursing satisfaction from 10% with the old approach to 90% with the new process, reduced costs by eliminating cabinet rental fees and reducing overstocking, reduced stock-outs, and created a continual improvement process that supports the team’s ongoing needs. This session provides an excellent example of clinical and supply chain collaboration.
